I have worked in the documentary sector
since leaving university -- in-house at broadcasters (BBC and
ITV), as a partner in an independent production company, and as
a free-lance. With over 20 years in the business I have gained
wide experience working with a broad range of producers and broadcasters
in Europe and beyond.
Based in England, I make documentaries not only for our national
channels, but for many of the major broadcasters on the Continent,
North America and, increasingly, in Asia. Since 2003 I have
worked as a freelance producer and executive producer. I currently
alternate between being a producer-director on original films
and as a script doctor/editing director fixing other people's
programmes. My true love, however, is as a development producer.
Nothing excites me more than developing a project and getting
it commissioned.
I am an occasional lecturer or tutor on documentary production
courses and workshops both for the EDN and for other organizations.
In my spare time I am writing three books: Perfect Pitching,
The Deepest Hole: Co-production Pitfalls, and, Re-versioning
Nightmares.
