ARGOS Distribution - Belgium
Marlène Rigler (°Vienna, AT), studied aesthetics
and contemporary literature in Vienna, Paris and Berlin, worked
as a curator, project coordinator and artists' assistant in
Paris and New York before settling down in Brussels where she
presently works at Argos, Center for Art and Media as a distribution
and programming officer.
Argos - Centre for Art & Media is an international centre
for the contemporary audiovisual arts incorporating various
functions: exhibitions, screenings, media library, distribution,
publications and production as well as preservation of artistic
work in moving images. Argos showcases developments and promotes
new forms of practice in the audio-visual arts, having as conceptual
framework critical, innovative and socially committed work of
an interdisciplinary orientation, with a special emphasis on
film and video. Argos works with international as well as Belgian
artists.
DISTRIBUTION
Since its foundation in 1989 Argos' distribution activity has
enabled no less than over 5000 screenings and presentations
nationally and internationally in cultural centres, museums,
festivals, television networks, media libraries, and institutional
collections. Over 60 artists and 500 works are currently included
in Argos' active distribution pool, which continues to grow.
Special attention is paid to Belgian audio-visual production,
though foreign artists are also distributed. Argos also offers
thematic and historical screening programs on demand. These
programmes also include works in the preservation and media
