Head of Culture & Sciences, ZDF/ARTE, Germany
Martin Pieper grew up in Tunisia and Ivory Coast. After law
studies in Cologne (Germany) and Lausanne (Switzerland) he practised
a short time as attorney.
From 1990-1994 he was at ZDF resp. ZDF Enterprises (commercial
branch of ZDF) responsible for legal and business affairs of
the ECA (European Coproduction Association, a joint venture
between Channel 4, France 2, ORF, RAI, SRG/SSR, TVE and ZDF
with the aim to coproduce long running series and TV movies)
as well as for some chosen international coproductions.
From 1994-1996 he was Assistant of the Director for European
Joint Venture Programmes (Direktor Europäische Programmbeteiligungen)
and from 1996-2000 Assistant of the Director for European Satellite
Programmes (Direktor Europäische Satellitenprogramme -
3sat, ARTE, Digitaler Theaterkanal, ZDF-Vision).
Since 2000 he is as commissioning editor head of the department
culture & science programmes/ARTE, which supplies programmes
for mostly all single documentary slots aired on ARTE.
From 1999-2001, resp. since 2003 he has been member of the
funding board of the Baden-Württemberg Film Funding Corporation
(Medien- und Filmgesellschaft Baden-Württemberg/MFG).
