Peter Wintonick
Producer, director, writer, critic, mentor and advisor on all manner of
film, doc-media and 'now' media. Among many incarnations, he ceaselessly
aids and abets the development of young independent filmmakers. A career
spanning 33 years and involvement in more than 100 films. Wintonick is 2007
winner Premier's Prize, 2006 Laureate of the Governor General's Award in
Visual and Media Arts, Canada's highest such honour. Co-founder DocAgora.org
on new forms, new platforms and new ways of funding docmedia. Founder the
first online film festival The Virtual Film Festival (1994-97). Co-founder the
greenmedia institute promoting a Greencode.org for the Media Industries. 2005
digi-doc policy "Thinker in Residence" for the Premier of South Australia.

prize). Wintonick writes for (inter)national cinema magazines and websites. He is international editor of DOC's national film magazine, POV. He has advised important film festivals such as IDFA, RIDM, Sheffield. He's on the executive board of several film and new media organizations. He has organized conferences, debates, masterclasses and workshops around the world from China to Mexico, including at IDFAcademy's Summer School; Discovery Campus, European Documentary Network, the Canadian Screen Training Centre (SIFT) and Indonesia's Dokumenter. Peter Wintonick co-founded NECESSARY ILLUSIONS a modest multi-faceted production centre based in Montreal. He currently works as mentor and executive producer with EyeSteelFilms (Up the Yangtze; RIP, among others) developing and producing several new projects.
